Abstract:
Maritime industry is an essential sector that spans shipbuilding, shipping, port operations, and
maritime technology. Its competitiveness and expansion depend heavily on innovation. This
thesis delves into the applicability of patents within the marine sector, emphasizing their
potential to promote creativity, safeguard intellectual property, and boost market share. The
study seeks to better comprehend the national and international legal skeleton of patent laws
and their implementation in the maritime sector. The researcher has emphasized the potential
advantages of patent protection in maritime industry and highlighting its technical
innovations and economic significance. The significance of patents in Pakistan's marine
sector are also examined in the thesis, along with how they support economic expansion,
innovation, intellectual property rights protection, and technical improvement. It ends with
suggestions for legislators, business partners, and patent holders on how to improve patent
protection in Pakistan's marine sector and create an atmosphere that encourages creativity and
innovation. This research includes doctrinal legal methodology, and an analytical method is
used during this research work. This thesis has found that Pakistan‘s patent laws applicability
in maritime industry is outdated and has several shortcomings and loopholes in its factionary
with regard to implementation of patent laws in maritime industry of Pakistan. These
proposed changes aim to align Pakistan's patent system with global standards, promoting
fairness, efficiency, and the safeguarding of intellectual property rights through the
implementation of patent laws.
