dc.description.abstract The objective of this project is to develop an Android Shopping Assistant and Recommender. Application that can scan barcodes effectively and produce its prices on the customer’s android phone screen so a person can shop within a certain budget. This report explains the methods people make use of for their shopping purposes and their preferences and how it can be incorporated in a single application making use of technology. It gives a brief introduction and the review of technology and different applications. Finally, it explains the methodology of the project and the end product of the studies and implementation that is achieved through this project. This project undertaken is developed using the Android technologies. The main advantage of using Android Operating System is that it provides various features and functionalities that are suitable for developing the Shopping Assistant and Recommendation application. The Shopping Assistant and Recommendations works with first capturing an image of the products barcode and searches for a match from the database through a simple image detection algorithm in the form of an API working at its backend. This application is designed to facilitate the user for his/her shopping trips and maintain the item’s list that has to be purchased with continuously comparing and tallying items prices. The items are maintained according to user’s purchasing history. Recommendations for future development and conclusions are also included in the report. en_US
