Abstract:
Hydrocarbons are the most essential part of economics of our country. Even on a smaller scale hydrocarbons play wide role everyday life. Geoscientists are trying since long time for exploration of hydrocarbon in the earth and are applying different methods in this regard. Seismic methods are one the widely used methods in the exploration of hydrocarbon in this regard. The Indus basin, including the Kohat-Potwar depression, (figure 1) belongs to the category of extra-continental downward basins which account for 48% of the world's known petroleum resources. The Potwar basin has several features that make it a favorable site for hydrocarbon accumulations. Located on a continental margin, the depression is filled with thick deposits of sedimentary rocks, including potential source reservoir and cap rock. (Riva, 1983). In the present work, an attempt has been made to interpret the sub-surface structure of the area to correlate their results with the well-logs to find out the porosity other physical properties of the marked horizons on the seismic section.
