Abstract:
A seismic section of line 97-CP-05 provided by Directorate General Petroleum Concessions (DGPC) from a seismic survey conducted by OGDCL in 1991 in the area of Turkwal (Eastern Salt Range/Potwar Plateau). The direction of the line is NE-SW. A time section is produced from the seismic section using the vibrating points and the two-way-times (TWT) of the reflectors and faults. The TWT are posted on the base map to make a time contour map of the Top Eocene Chinji Formation, as it continues throughout the area. The seismic velocities (Vrms) have been used to find the average velocities of the Top Eocene and the basement. These average velocities are then used to find the depths of the formations for the Geoseismic Section or Depth Section. Well data of Turkwal have been used to mark the thicknesses of the individual formations on the Geoseismic Section from Cambrian to Recent. The Geoseismic Section shows that the area is structurally deformed due to salt decollement and compressional tectonic movements. The prospective zones in the anticlines of Chak Naurang and Joya Mair are the primary targets for oil exploration in the area. The purpose of this research is to demarcate and confirm the presence of such zones in the Eastern Salt Range/Potwar Plateau.
