Abstract

Man, and women should be provided with equal rights while empowering woman is need of the time. Contemporarily these is being ensured by a greatest organization of humanity UN and on the other hand Islam did not only coin in the theory of equality but practically inculcated these values in the society. However, Islam has set some obligations upon man and woman individually. This thesis analysis perspectives of UN and Islam regarding gender equality and woman empowerment. To obtain the data, primary sources such as data regarding UN has been gathered from its official websites. The standpoint of Islam has been collected from Holy Quran, Sunnah, Exegesis, Seerah, Jurisprudence and Historical Books. Secondary sources have been also taken where needed. The first chapter of this thesis deals with the historical background of UN relevant to humanitarian work and gender equality. The second chapter throws light on the rights and duties of woman while mentioning their practicality in the society. The third and the final chapter discusses the commonalities and differences between the approach of UN and Islam. It also states the positive and negative impact of gender equality. The United Nations is playing a vital role by spending capital for gender equality and woman empowerment. In addition, legislation is being done at global level to ensure woman rights, prevention of violence and harassment. On the other side, Islam ensures provision of all rights to woman while confining herself at home and allowing her to leave when needed. Islam and UN perspectives sometimes are common and somewhere differ. Hence gender equality has some positive and negative impacts on society.
