Abstract:
The current study was conducted to investigate the development of modified nutshell-based adsorbent for removal of organic pollutants from wastewater using Pistachio nutshells. The AC-modified Fe-MgO were used as nano adsorbent for the removal of MO dye from aqueous solution. Synthesized samples were characterized using various techniques such as Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometer (EDX). The effect of different parameters such as pH, contact time, MO dose, Initial MO concentration and temperature of MO solution were studied using batch adsorption studies. The FTIR results shows the presence of various functional groups helpful for the reduction of metal ions into AC-modified Fe-MgO compound. The SEM analysis revealed the appearance smooth and even surface topology in case of raw pistachio nutshells and AC-modified Fe-MgO while uneven surface topology of AC. The EDX results shows the presence of carbon at 0.5keV. The batch adsorption studies show that the synthesized AC-modified Fe-MgO were used for the effective removal of MO dye. The 90% removal rate were observed at pH 3, MO dose 0.025g/L, contact time 10 min, temperature 30 °C, initial MO conc. 15 mg/l. Adsorption isotherm (Langmuir and Freundlich) and adsorption kinetic (Pseudo-first order and Pseudo-second order) were studied in order to examine the fitness of experimental equilibrium data. The results shows that the Freundlich model and pseudo-second-order shows the maximum efficiency on the removal of MO on the surface of AC-modified Fe-MgO. The suggested technique may be used as large scale for metallic nano-adsorbants synthesis, which can be effectively used for the removal of dyes from textile industry.
