dc.description.abstract The research is conducted under the aim of identifying and evaluating the sources of pollution found in the stream passing through the Naval Complex and Sector E-8 of Islamabad in order to recommend non-potable usage of streamwater. For this purpose, a survey was conductedand the survey questionnaire form was added into experimentation in order to assess the awareness of the population in terms of water quality of the stream and the pollutants that are present. The research process included a total of 120 respondents to fill in the questionnaires. This comprised of 20 people per cach locality of sample collection. Questionnaires were distributed to individuals in the locality and were then analyzed to identify and evaluate sources of pollution. Result revealed that the E-8 stream was moderately polluted. The survey indicates the main causes of pollution as sewerage leakages, chemical effluents from households, and surface water runoffs. All of the respondents (100%) were not familiar with the term watershed. A significant number of people in Islamabad E-8 remain ignorant about their contribution to water pollution. It is alarming to note that some people are not aware of waterborne diseases while others (almost 79%) who know of such menace do not participate in water conservation. On the basis of results of this research it is concluded that there is a need to improve the role of sensitive populations living around water sources for their conservation while ensuring better planning of our water drainage systems en_US
