Abstract:
Maritime piracy poses a big threat to global trade and commerce on maritime territory of the world. Piracy holds a serious threat to the maritime security and navigation for the seafarers on the high seas. This dissertation delves on the on the complex landscape of maritime piracy and the role of the Navy of Pakistan in improving sea navigation and maritime security and safety. It focuses on the role of Pakistan in combating this transnational menace. This study evaluates the country’s contribution within the broader context of international initiatives aimed at suppressing piracy activities. Through detailed and a comprehensive review of the subject matter this thesis elucidates the complicacy surrounding maritime trials and maritime policy. This dissertation analyzes the historical evolution of piracy and maritime international law including modus operandi of several historic piratic groups. It studies the geopolitical dynamics and the motivational factors of piracy in the piratic prone regions. Furthermore, this research discovers and explores the socio-economic factors and challenges and risks associated with the trial when it comes to adjudicating suspects in piratic activities. We also study the needs of the present framework by analyzing the historic and comprehensive definition of piracy in modern day conditions. Along with highlighting the security risks of the trial conduction and the evidentiary hurdles when it comes to gathering evidentiary and witness support for these trials. The dissertation also explores Pakistan’s participation in combating maritime piracy also shedding light on its participation in international forums and its collaboration with international a regional partner for deployment of naval assets at the more piracy prone area. This thesis is also going to present an excellent overview of some of the joint task forces and the international laws and treaties that govern present day maritime law and trials and will be approached more presently and in retrospect as well. However, despite concerted efforts, maritime piracy remains a tenacious challenge, necessitating sustained global cooperation and innovative strategies.
