dc.description.abstract The study area Ratana occupies the northwestern part of the Potwar sub-basin which is nearly 100 km southwest of Islamabad, capital territory of Pakistan. Structurally it can be witnessed that the area of Ratana is bounded by thrusts and pop up structures. The purpose of this study is to understand the structural variations in this area with an appropriate explanation for it as well as its hydrocarbon perspective, for which this area is studied under seismic (2D) and petrophysical domain. The information of the 2D seismic data divulges that the zone has been faulted and folded. Pop-up structures were observed on seismic sections with three main faults out of which one is a major fault. Closure to the pop-up structures is provided by one of the main faults and the major fault itself. Investigations were done on well log data to attain various objectives inclusive of the determination of volume of shale (VSH), average and effective porosity (APHI, EPHI), saturation of water (Sw) and hydrocarbon (Sn), ultimately to establish a zone of interest. The zones marked during the research are of Patala Formation, which is probable to be regarded as a potential reservoir for the study area. en_US
