Abstract:
This research delves into the intricate relationship between Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) practices and operational performance within Pakistan's dynamic manufacturing industry. Utilizing a quantitative methodology and a cross-sectional research design, data was collected from 333 respondents representing diverse manufacturing sectors in Pakistan, encompassing textiles, automotive, electronics, chemicals, food and beverage, and other industries. The study's comprehensive questionnaire captured insights into the extent of GSCM implementation, operational performance metrics, and various dimensions of organizational culture. The findings unequivocally highlight a strong positive correlation between GSCM practices and operational performance. Companies actively engaged in GSCM initiatives, such as green procurement, eco-design, and green manufacturing, demonstrated superior performance in terms of efficiency, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction. This underscores the tangible benefits of integrating environmental considerations into every facet of the supply chain, from sourcing raw materials to delivering the final product. Furthermore, the research emphasizes the pivotal role of organizational culture in amplifying the positive effects of GSCM. A supportive culture that values sustainability, encourages employee participation, and fosters environmental awareness was found to significantly enhance the impact of GSCM practices on operational performance. In addition to examining the direct and moderating effects, the study also delves into the nuanced relationship between organizational culture and GSCM adoption. The results indicate that a positive organizational culture not only facilitates the implementation of GSCM practices but also enhances their effectiveness over time. While this research offers valuable insights into the GSCM landscape in Pakistan's manufacturing industry, it also acknowledges certain limitations. The cross-sectional design provides a snapshot of the variables at a specific point in time, hindering the ability to establish causal relationships definitively. Finally, the study's focus on the Pakistani manufacturing sector limits the generalizability of findings to other industries or geographic regions. In conclusion, this study makes a substantial contribution to the growing body of literature on GSCM and its impact on operational performance. By highlighting the critical role of organizational culture, it provides actionable insights for managers seeking to integrate sustainable practices into their supply chains and policymakers striving to promote sustainable industrial development in Pakistan.
