Abstract:
Soil stabilization, being a fundamental part of civil engineering, is to change soil qualities through chemical and physical means, for improvement of engineering features. The purpose of this study is to conduct a thorough analysis of lime's ability, for improving soil qualities and stability. The objective of soil stabilization is to improve the bearing capacity, resistance to weathering, and settlement. The long-term success of construction projects is dependent on the stability of the underlying soils, as unstable soils present substantial issues for pavements and structures. Soil stabilization procedures are critical for ensuring soil stability, especially for highly active soils, allowing them to properly support superstructure loads. Furthermore, soil stabilization saves time and money compared to the traditional process of excavating and replacing unstable soil. In this research, we investigated the methods and efficiency of lime as a stabilizing agent, providing a complete examination of its impact on soil parameters. The addition of lime in varying percentages i.e. 0%, 2%, 4% ,6% and 8% have resulted in the increase of Maximum Dry Density and UCS while, a decrease in the plasticity index. The results indicated that the ideal percentage for the addition of lime in clay soil stabilization is at 6%. By explaining the benefits and practical applications of lime stabilization, this study adds to the field of geotechnical engineering, opening the way for more sustainable and cost-effective construction techniques.
