dc.description.abstract | This study is conducted to determine the business viability of integrating solar-induced hydroponics with water recycling in urban agriculture within the F-8 and F-10 sectors of Islamabad, Pakistan. The objective is to assess the viability of this innovative agricultural method to address the city's rapid urbanization and its associated food security issues. Data were collected through site visits, semi-structured interviews with 50 project stakeholders including farmers, residents, and technology providers, and analysis of project documentation such as energy consumption data and yield records. Quantitative data analysis revealed that the solar-hydroponic systems produced an average of 20,624 products per year, with a net profit of €16,263 per product, indicating strong economic viability. Energy monitoring showed optimal solar panel performance with minimal shading issues, and water recycling achieved an efficiency rate of 85%. Qualitative insights highlighted community concerns regarding the aesthetic integration of hydroponic structures but overall support for local fresh produce and job creation. The study concludes that solar-induced hydroponics with water recycling is a sustainable solution for urban agriculture in Islamabad, offering significant environmental and economic benefits. Recommendations include optimizing solar panel placement, implementing regular maintenance protocols, engaging the community through awareness campaigns, and advocating for government incentives to support wider adoption. This comprehensive approach demonstrates the potential for scalability and long-term sustainability of urban agriculture initiatives in rapidly urbanizing cities. | en_US |
