dc.description.abstract | Disasters pose a persistent threat to communities worldwide, with increasing frequency and intensity contributing to the complex challenges of global warming and climate change. This research focuses on the analysis of Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) in mitigating and preparing for the impact of disasters, particularly in Islamabad, Pakistan. Despite being prone to earthquakes and floods, communities in Islamabad often lack the necessary resources to independently cope with these disasters. This study explores the CBDRR practices in Islamabad, analyzing the importance of local knowledge and practices in disaster risk reduction. This research is guided by a theoretical framework combining Disaster Management Cycle and the Participatory Approach, emphasizing the interdependence of community and disaster management authorities. Two research questions investigate into the contribution of local knowledge to disaster risk reduction and the factors impeding CBDRR strategies implemented by the National Disaster Management Authority. A qualitative approach was employed for data collection and analysis. The study area encompasses zones I and III of Islamabad, identified as vulnerable to earthquakes and floods. Probability sampling was used to collect data from 18 respondents through in-depth interviews, including representatives from the disaster management authority and community elders. The research findings contributed to the understanding of CBDRR effectiveness in Islamabad, shedding light on the significance of community engagement in disaster risk reduction. Through a comprehensive analysis, this research aims to enhance the resilience of Islamabad's communities against the recurring threats of earthquakes and floods, ultimately contributing to broader discussions on effective disaster risk reduction strategies. | en_US |
