dc.description.abstract Due to concerns about global warming the renewable energy is a suitable choice for generating electric power Solar photovoltaic system is one of the important and commonly available renewable energy sources for the production of electric power. Since solar photovoltaic systems face a limitation of substantial variability due to the change in weather conditions. The output power of a PV array on a typical sunny day is reasonably smooth. But on a cloudy condition PV array creates fluctuating output power due to the moment of clouds. The movement and degree of clouds passing can be illogical and nonuniform. Therefore, the output power from PV array is also non-uniform Such variability im a power system can produce difficulties of reliability in electrical power grid and high probabilities of damaging electrical equipment. This thesis contains the modelling and simulation of solar photovoltaic system im which two types of modelling has been proposed. In one model of solar photovoltaic PV is connected to load parallel with battery and grid in which the partial shading effect has been investigated whereas in the other model the output power of solar photovoltaic PV is given to de to de boost converter and then connected with resistive load and giving input to PV system is in the form of high ramp rate irradiance and low ramp rate of solar irradiance The battery energy source (BES) is used to smooth both upward and downward power fluctuation where the capacity of batteries needs to be very large and resulung fugh capital cost of batteries The combination of battery energy storage (BES) and power curtailment algorithm is an economical solution for smoothing of solar power fluctuation. Comparing this method of using battery energy storage and combine with power curtailment can reduced the capacities and densities of battery prolonged its service life of batteries. The described technique is carried out using MATLAB Simulink to analyses the smoothing PV power fluctuation of system characteristics and behavior of solar availability Different scenarios are discussed under different contingencies. The results are analyzed to ensure the feasibility of the proposed technique en_US
