Impact of Economic Growth and Technological Innovation on Environmental Quality in Asian Countries (Pakistan, China, India and Malaysia)

Abstract

The purpose of this case study to study the connection of economic growth and technological innovation on environmental quality by using a fixed effect Panel regression approach in Asian economies. The World Development Indicator (WDI) annual Panel data from 2000 to 2020 is used in this study. Our research investigates the impact of economic growth, as measured by Gross National Income (GNI), and technological innovation, as reflected by patents application (residents) on environmental quality, specifically focusing on emissions of carbon dioxide in four Asian countries, Pakistan, India, China, and Malaysia. These countries have experienced different levels of economic growth and technological advancements, making them suitable cases for analysis. The empirical results reveal that CO2 emissions have negatively impacted by Patents, and positively impacted by GNI in these Asian countries. To boost economic growth, the study suggests that governments prioritize climatic regulations targeted at establishing mechanisms at the lowest levels, like renewable energy sources and green infrastructure, that helps in lowering of consumptions of energy and CO2 emissions. As a result, it is important that these countries develop programs to improve public awareness about the dangers of carbon emissions.
