Abstract:
The study was conducted to determine the quality of water of Balria University H-11 and ES Campus, Islamabad. The study was completed in two phases and total of 72 samples were analyzed for biological, plhysicochemical and heavy metals in both phases, The efheieney of the filters was also checked for both the campuses. The water samples were collected by following proper standard protocols. Physical parameters including pH, urbidity, temperature, TDS, and salt were within the permissible limit for both phases except for clectrical conduetivity which was exceeding the permisible limit of WHO. Similarly, the chemical parameters including chloride, sodium, sodium chloride, magnesium, sulphate, and nitrate were within the pernissible limit whereas, totl hardness, calcium were above WHO permissible limit. The alkalinity for initial phase of both the campuses were above the limit whereas, for final phase it was within the permissible limit ofWHO. The heavy metals including Aluminum, Arsenic, Barium, Cadmium, Chromium, Cobalt, Copper, Iron, Manganese, Molybdenum, Nickle, Lead, Selenium, Strontium, and Zinc were below detectable limits. The microbial analysis for initial phase showed the growth of bacteria in all mediums except for few samples. On the contrary, for final phase only nutrient agar for both campuses showed the growth of bacteria. These results suggest that proper monitoring and better maintenance for filters were done as these filters have expiry date of 1-2 months.
