Abstract:
E-waste production and consumption is exponentially increasing at both global and domestic levels due to constant technological advancements. This study aims to explore public behavior and perspectives when it comes to e-waste disposal, recycling and management practices. It also focuses on assessment of heavy metals amongst e-waste repairers and knowledge of workers regarding the impact of informal waste handling. Quantitative survey analysis and atomic absorption spectroscopy is deployed to achieve the outcomes. Given the survey results, Overall, 80% people are aware of the concept of e-waste while 24% public is knowledgeable about e-waste recycling. E-waste imposes negative impacts, 42.9% people are aware of the adverse effects. Heavy metal assessment ruled out that Zinc is found in highest concentration in workers as compared to Lead and Cadmium. Repairers in the 50-60 age bracket possess a high concentration of metals due to their prolonged exposure.
