Abstract:
The study was conducted to determine the quality of water in Phulgran village of Islamabad. Total of 30 samples were analyzed for biological, Physio-chemical parameters. The water samples were collected by following proper standard protocols. Physical parameters including pH (6.3-7.3), temperature (10.9-12.6), electrical conductivity (with minimum value of 286 and maximum value of 1289), TDS (with minimum value of 210 and maximum value of 917) and total salts (varying (136-619) were within the permissible limit of WHO. Similarly, the chemical parameters including chloride (14.2-85.2), sodium (9.1-187), sodium chloride (23.3-140.2), alkalinity (30-268), total hardness (240-900), in carbonates, sodium bicarbonate (0.0006-0.003), sodium carbonate (0.0005-0.001), bicarbonate (0.0005-0.001), carbon trioxide (0.0001-0.001), nitrates (0.001-0.09) were within WHO permissible limit, but arsenic presence in our sample is zero. For microbial analysis, there was bacterial growth in MacConkey Agar, Salmonella Shigella Agar and Nutrient Agar, in our samples. These results suggest that some of the drinking water sources (bore and supply lines) need proper monitoring and better maintenance for better drinking water quality.
