Abstract:
The main objective of the study area was to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the study in part of the Lower Indus basin area. This have been achieved by doing petrophysical analysis of Kandra-1 and Kadanwari-1 wells. The project was initiated by taking into account the exploration history of the area followed by comprehension of stratigraphy and tectonic settings. We established the petroleum system and performed the petrophysical analysis.
The purpose has been achieved by utilizing complete suite of wire line logs and the available well data. This complete set of data had been issued by Land Mark Resources, Pakistan with the prior permission of the Directorate General of Petroleum Concessions, Pakistan.
To complete the above-mentioned task, all the reservoir intervals were evaluated for the hydrocarbon potential in detail using set of equations and different formation evaluation charts made by Schlumberger, Net pay zones have been marked in both Reservoirs. The lithologies of both reservoirs were determined by using schlumberger log interpretation charts, Lower Goru sands are the producing reservoir of the Kadanwari field and Sui Main Limestone is the producing reservoir in the Kandra field.
The methodology adopted to accomplish the petrophysical interpretation of Kandra-1 & Kadanwari-1 wells included measurement of shale volume by employing gamma ray log, estimation of porosity using density and neutron log, estimation of effective porosity, calculation of resistivity of water utilizing spontaneous potential log, evaluation of saturation of water and hydrocarbon saturation using Archie equation. The final results for the dissertation have been displayed in the form of Excel sheets and graphs for a better approach to the task. All of the displayed results show a good reservoir quality.
