dc.description.abstract The study includes seismic and structural interpretation of (Lat: 330 14’-33020’N, Long: 72005’-72011’ E). Meyal area, which lies in the Potwar sub-basin, Pakistan. The main objectives include to delineate the subsurface structure and to locate the prospective zones in the study area. To achieve these objectives, reinterpretation of seven seismic lines 801-MYL-10 (dip line) 801-MYL-13 (strike line), O/801-MYL-03 (dip line), O/801-MYL-04 (dip line), O/801-MYL-05 (dip line), O/801-MYL-11 (dip line) and O/801-MYL-07 (strike line) was carried out. Three prominent reflectors namely Chorgali Formation (Eocene), the top of Salt Range Formation and the basement consisting of Pre-Cambrian Salt were marked. A time contour map for the Upper Eocene Chorgali Formation was also developed which shows a long east-west oriented fault that is continued along the Pre-Cambrian basement designating as thick skin tectonics. Upper Eocene Chorgali Formation has been used for contouring and average velocities to find the depths of the formations for the seismic section. Well, data from Meyal 06 was used to mark the thicknesses of the individual formations on the seismic section from Cambrian to Recent. The Meyal structure is a well pronounced geological feature bounded by North-South verging and east-west trending upthrust faults. The Metal structure is an East-west trending Anticline at the Eocene level. It is 12.9 Kilometers long and 2.72 Kilometers wide covering an area of 35.18 kilometer square. According to our interpretation, the Meyal structure has been developed as a consequence of left and right lateral strike-slip movements of transpressional origin initiated during Post-Eocene time in the East and West respectively. en_US
