Abstract:
Pakistan is an agricultural country where farming is largely dependent upon the irrigation system. Over the years, large areas have been lost to water logging and salinity. In order to plan for a proper water management system or for a reclamation project the groundwater recharge mechanism with all its elements needs to be meticulously studied. The purpose of this project is to understand the recharge mechanism of the area of interest; Pindi Bhattian and Sukheki area, the Punjab plains. Electrical Resistivity survey and isotopic technique are coupled together to provide very intrinsic and detailed information of the subsurface lithology, the identification of the origin of groundwater, the relative contribution of the various groundwater recharge systems, groundwater quality, the depth of water table and groundwater salinization.
