Abstract:
Purpose:
The main purpose ofthis study is to investigate the impact oftransactional leadership style on
the contextual performance ofemployees with the mediating effect ofteam-member exchange
amongst employees working in pharmaceutical sector ofKarachi, Pakistan.
Methodology & Design:
The methodology included quantitative, deductive and explanatory research approach via
employing convenience sampling technique to gather data from respondents with a sample of
255 and congregated data was analyzed through using SPSS and Smart PLS.
Findings:
The study found out that the impact oftransactional leadership on contextual performance of
employees was positive and significant whereas team-member exchange positively and
significantly mediated the relationship between transactional leadership and contextual
performance.
Limitations:
Limited number ofresponses and pharmaceuticals were selected due to convenience sampling
technique. There could be a possible biasness as the study was dependent upon the responses
ofthe participants solely.
Recommendations:
It is recommended for the leaders and managers of the pharmaceutical firms to adopt
transactional style of leadership to improve the contextual performance of employees via
encouraging positive exchanges with team members to synergize each others performances.
