Abstract:
The main rationale of this study is to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of Shahab-01A using well-log data. Shahab-01A lies in Jhelum district, Punjab province, Pakistan. It is situated 90 km southeast of the Federal Capital Islamabad and is bounded by latitude 33°11'-33°22' N and longitude 71°59-72°18' E and lies in the Potwar plateau of the Upper Indus basin. Tectonically Main Boundary Thrust MBT bounded the Potwar basin in the north, in the east by the Jhelum strike-slip fault, and in the south by salt range thrust. (SRT), in the southwest by the Kalabagh strike-slip fault and in the South by the Indus river. For the evaluation of hydrocarbon potential, two zones have been marked. One of them is in the Chorgali Formation and the other one is in the Sakesar Formation. Various petrophysical parameters like volume of shale, density porosity, neutron porosity, and water saturation have been calculated through petrophysical analysis. On the basis of petrophysical parameters, both Chorgali and Sakesar formations have fair to good hydrocarbon potentials.
