dc.description.abstract Seismic hazards and their damages have been substantially serious on unconsolidated or soft rocks then on rock sites even if they are very close to earthquake epicenter. Utilizing shear wave velocity to locate or characterize shallow subsurface soil is an essential method in practice. For estimating the velocity and thickness of soil strata, passive techniques based on recordings of ambient noise are very attractive tools. These techniques are inexpensive and noninvasive alternatives for exploration. Methods of MAM (Multi-array analysis of microtremor) and MASW (Multi-channel analysis of surface waves) were used to calculate the shear wave velocity of Jasmine Garden Islamabad for this thesis. There were three MASW and one MAM studies conducted. Three channels and 72 geophones were used. The distance between two geophones were preserved at 5 meter. After collecting data, the Geopsy module was used to analyze it. Using F-K analysis, a dispersion curve was constructed, which was then inverted to calculate shear wave velocity. Shear waves have a velocity between 337 and 374 ms-1. According to NEHRP classifications, this velocity range corresponds to ground type D. This indicates that the subsurface contains firm soil or medium or dense sand deposits. They can increase or amplify the trembling of the ground during seismic hazards. Jasmine Garden Vs 30 curve was developed. Islamabad's contour map was created using information from F9 Park, Kachnar Park, COMSATS University, and Jasmine Garden. Engineers can construct building codes based on the shear wave velocity value and the NEHRP code, and develop buildings, projects, and structures based on these codes, thereby preventing any seismic hazard, saving many lives, and preventing financial losses. en_US
