dc.description.abstract | The agriculture sector directly affects the economy of country but it faces a lot of challenges due to which the economic factor of country is disturbed. There are many issues which farmers face in their everyday life with respect to farming. The main problem which is faced by this sector is the use of old methods for cultivation of different crops due to which the yield is very low. There are many diseases which attack the plants/crops/trees etc. Some of these are unknown and farmers cannot handle them. A system is also needed which can generate alerts timely so that farmers can take precautionary steps to prevent such attacks or handle the attacks in early stages. Climate changes has disturbed the whole world in general and Pakistan in particular. It is facing severe water shortages and crops are not getting water as per requirements. Another problem which is faced by the farmers is non-availability of smart irrigation system. Smart irrigation will not only address the water issues but also improve the growth and production of crops. By implementing these, farmers directly and country at larger scale will get financial gains. The “Green Farming” project is based on two parts, first is software part and second one is hardware part. The software part consists of Android application that is especially dedicated for the farmers. This android application will help farmers, provide each & every information and help farmers to solve their problems which they face in cultivation. The goals of green farming are to: improve farmer knowledge, bridge the communication gap between the farmers & agriculturists, introduce new technologies & methodologies, and overcome farmer problems. The hardware model shows the automated irrigation system which is intelligently supplies water to different fields by sensing the moisture level using sensors present in the soil and responding accordingly. All the irrigation systems developed previously were operated manually and those pumps turned out to be very inefficient. However, with the advancement of technology, recently there have been a few efficient irrigation systems that have been developed. The system we designed also has a GSM module for better interaction between the farmer and the fields even if the farmer is away from fields. This project focuses on a smart irrigation system which is cost-effective, ready-touse, and energy efficient. | en_US |
