Abstract:
This research examines the role of UNFCCC and its subsidiary agreements in mitigating climate change by applying the theory of Green Politics. This research addresses the question that how climate change is a threat to human security and UNFCCC in unable to deal with its set objective. The methodology of this research has employed to qualitative research. The data of this research employed with both primary and secondary sources. For primary source interviews and speeches were taken from the official sites and documents of UNFCCC, meanwhile, newspapers, journal articles were explored for secondary sources. The scope of this research was limited to South Asia as it is more affected region due to climate change. This research has found that all states and even UNFCCC is focusing on adaptation rather than mitigation which is worsening the impact of climate change especially in developing states. Developed and industrialized states are continuously contributing in greenhouse gas emissions in order to enhance their economic capabilities and over the top of all this these deny that climate change is due to anthropogenic interferences and arguing that this is a natural phenomenon. The research concludes that climate change is due to anthropogenic interferences and it is a high time that states should focus on mitigation rather than adaptation.
