dc.description.abstract Organizations face a lot of problems in managing employees and tracking the time they take ‘off’ from work. As organizations are employee driven, if any one of them is not available for work in time, the workflow of organization may be completely or partially disturbed. Communication also plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy environment in the organization; if not managed properly it may lead to degradation of performance. Any sort of communication requires call in directly to the supervisor or manager who is trained to manage absences of the employees, requiring too much of manual work on account of manager/supervisor. Organizations can be facilitated by automating this entire process, which can now be achieved through an Android application, “Span Punch”. The main goal of this project is to propose a solution for the problem faced by organizations in development towards an improved environment, simply by using Android phones. Through geo-fencing the users can mark their own attendance by being located in the assigned area of work, if they are not present at the assigned location, attendance will not be marked. This will help to ensure the employee’s presence within the organization’s premises. The employees can also communicate with the assigned supervisors for queries such as requests for leave and overtime hours. Similarly, the supervisors can communicate with the managers. The users will also be allowed to view their timecard that would include all the information on the hours they have completed, the hours they took off from work and the overtime hours they have completed throughout the month. The users will also be able to view their “attendance history”, “overtime status” and “leave status” for the current month and they will also be able to view their schedule for the day. The application also comprises of a web-based admin panel through which user activities are managed. Departments, users, their range for attendance and schedule for each employee will be determined through this admin panel. The admin panel will also generate real-time employee performance reports, which can be used to monitor the performance of organizations/an organization. The proposed system will eliminate most of the manual work that wastes valuable time and resources of the organizations which can alternatively be put-to much better use. en_US
