Career Counselling Chat Bot

Abstract

This project has worked to develop an interactive chatbot that guides students on career counseling and allows users to ask questions related to any discipline and field. The answers the bot provides are gathered from a database where many have been stored beforehand. Blog posts are used to reply to queries not present in the bot's database. There is an assessment feature that categorizes students according to the five major personality types and delivers to each student with reference to his needs. All the information being used has been provided by experts in their respective fields. Students can customize their options and even choose the councilors they want. The frontend of the program was developed with the help of HTML, Java, CSS and the backend with Flask and SQL Lite. IBM Watson Discovery was employed to deliver the data to the bot. The overall framework was an Agile Model which was prioritized over a waterfall model because it is incremental and allowed us to introduce changes at different phases.
