dc.description.abstract A supply chain represents all the steps involved in transportation of a product from its unprocessed state to the customer. It is a network of an organization with suppliers, distributors, and manufacturers to assemble and circulate the product to the customer. In a centralized supply chain, the central authority makes all the decisions. Whereas, decentralized supply chain is managed by all individual members of the network. With the help of emerging new technologies of the internet, food traceability systems are improving day by day, but nearly all of the advanced systems are centralized. These systems result in customer trust problems like falsifying customer information, fraud, and corruption. Centralized systems are always controlled by the single authority. Therefore, there is more risk of system collapse as a single point of failure and that can lead us towards the system crash. In the past few years, cases of food borne diseases have increased. The traditional systems of food traceability and safety are not efficient, due to their centralized nature. Growing threats to food security lead us towards the need for an innovative traceability system. Food customers are becoming more health-conscious, and they want to know more information about the purchased food. We have used the blockchain characteristics to overcome the problem of the traditional system, by providing the complete traceability path of the product from its origin to the customer. Hyperledger Iroha is designed to be simple and easy to incorporate into infrastructural projects requiring distributed ledger technology. We are using Hyperledger iroha to get the most out of it. It provides the trusted, secure, and fast applications by bringing the power of permissioned based blockchain.[1] Blockchain has solved the issues of the food supply chain such as safety recalls, food fraud, supply chain inefficiency, and food traceability in the current centralized food supply chain. en_US
