| dc.description.abstract | The main objective of the present study is to carry out the petrographic analysis of the rocks in Karamar area, Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The Karamar area is a locality in a comparatively larger Shewa-Shahbazgarhi complex. Shewa Shahbazgarhi complex lies in Peshawar basin. The research work consisted of field and laboratory phases, where samples were collected from the field. These samples were further cut into thin sections and analyzed under petrographic microscopes. Diagnosis of the rocks was done through petrographic analysis. Petrographic analysis of the rock samples demonstrated the presence of syenites, quartz-syenites, syenogranites, quartz-rich granitoids and pyroxenites in the same locality. Presence of mafic and felsic rocks together insinuates towards the contemporaneous occurrence of both acidic and alkaline magmas at the same time, hence resulting in a phenomenon called Bimodal volcanism. | en_US |
