Abstract:
Parkinson s, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, Huntington's disease, or post-stroke
deficits are the diseases by which people are getting affected around the globe. The
people affected by these types of diseases can’t perform basic routine tasks such as
difficulty in handling things, drinking and eating etc. Therefore, as an engineers; it is
duty to provide solution for such patients so that they should be able to eat on
their own. The thesis purpose is to analyze that through the utilization of today’s
technology people with impaired skills can be helped during their eating process.
Therefore, we have constructed a prototype of a self-stabilizing spoon that in the real
world, assists people with impaired skills. We have an Arduino Nano micro-controller
which is the CPU of our device to identify the direction of device and to determine
how fast its position was changed and has gyroscopes combined with accelerometers.
For the establishment of a system oftwo degrees offreedom, two servo motors were
placed orthogonally to each other. A horizontal position the spoon was intended to
maintain. Many experimental analyses have been performed on different weights and
objects as an input.
