Abstract:
Electricity transmission, distribution, and billing via wireless automation have reached
maturity. The energy information of consumers cannot be easily retrieved using traditional
metering techniques. Time, resource, and labour billing are the most common method of
strength billing. This project allows that the design and implementation of a GSM based
operation of an energy meter, which provides the solution for auto billing and labour
discounts in power distribution and control. The problem is when customer tries to skip
meter devices, thereby paying much less than what is truly consumed or the case of
overbilling by the power company as is the case in many homes. This challenge aims to
simplify the size of power usage and its associated billing system. The methods and
materials used here employ a microcontroller unit which typically monitors the meter and
interfaced with a GSM MODEM with SEM for remote operation. The idea of serial
communication working with embedded structures is the strategy used to complete this aim.
The meter displays relevant billing data on LCD screen, and the data that is shown to you in
your meter is sent straight to your electric billing company. In other words, the billing
company representative who always came to read your meter at the end of each month won't
be coming. Instead, the work will be done efficiently through GSM, and the electric
company will deliver a physical copy of your bill to your door.
