Abstract:
Study area (Meyal) is located in the Upper Indus Basina in south-west of Islamabad.
Tectonically, it is present in foreland and thrust belt in Potwar Plateau. Seismic data
interpretation and petrophysical analysis of the area was carried out by utilizing seismic
and well log data issued by Directorate General of Petroleum Concession (DGPC). In
seismic data interpretation, the reservoir horizons of Chorgali Formation and Sakesar
Limestone was marked on seismic line after seismic to well tie. Interpretation of seismic
lines and mapping of study area revealed that Meyal structure is an east – west trending,
narrow and steep, faulted anticile with major thrusts cutting the structure longitudinally.
The petrophysical analysis was carried out on Meyal-06 well for the identification of
reservoir zones. The results of petrophysical analysis of Chorgali Formation revealed that
average water and hydrocarbon saturation in zone were 39.6% and 60.4% respectively,
whereas the average porosity and effective porosity were 6.3% and 3.4% respectively.
Hence showing good hydrocarbon potential to produce hydrocarbons.
