The research article with hold the analysis of the geology and tectonics of the study region,
which shows up as an Imbrication fan geometry in the Kothar oil field, located at Hundi Sari area,
Lower Indus Basin tectonically, and geologically in the Dadu District of Sindh, Pakistan. The main
theme of the research emphasis on the 2D seismic interpretation of the study area in order to
delineate the petroleum system and the structures proficient to hydrocarbon accumulation with the
help of available seismic lines. The presence of pop-up structures which is an imbrication fan
geometry is confirmed by a subsurface imaging of the area. With the aid of time and depth contour
maps drawn with the help of kingdom software, the results are further examined in depth. The
document also enlightens the petrophysical characteristics of the study area, based upon the well
log data from the Kothar-02 well drilled in the field. In the research region the appraisal of the main
reservoirs is the focus of petrophysical analysis. The Dungan Formation of Paleocene age,
identified as the main reservoir in this well based upon three main reservoir characteristics:
porosity, hydrocarbon saturation, and shale content of the reservoir in the research region. The
whole of interpretation is further elaborated and represented by graphs that depicts good effective
porosity conditions with less shale volume in Dungan Formation, but the pores were mainly water
saturated and very less or nonexistence of hydrocarbon saturation in the main reservoir, indicating
that it has more potential to be a water saturated reservoir. |
