Abstract:
The goal of the study is to conduct an electrical resistivity survey in DHA Phase II, Islamabad to
identify aquifer characteristics, gauge the depth of the water table, and suggest new well locations
to meet the demand for protecting freshwater aquifers. Vertical Electrical Sounding with a
Schlumberger setup is the working method. The highest spread is 160 metres, and the shortest
length is 0.5 metres. Readings of resistivity are taken using Resistivity Meter McOHM model-
2115. Based on the resistivity readings of the various lithological layers, IXID software is used to
identify them. The potential groundwater zone in the study area exists at a depth of >32 m,
according to the findings. Dar-Zarrouk parameter results give a good indication of the subsurface.
To determine the aquifer properties, aquifer protection capacity, and to provide a likely well
location, Dar-Zarrouk parameters are calculated. To create contour maps, Dar-Zarrouk
characteristics are estimated at the surface and at a depth of more than 35 metres. The information
provided by contour maps regarding the research region and the highlighted protective and
excellent zones on the maps. The study area's ability to protect aquifers is good to exceptional,
however High longitudinal conductance values give VES-7, VES-10, VES-12, and VES-19
exceptional aquifer protective capability and top groundwater priority. Based on the transverse
resistance measurements made at VES-9 andves-12 exhibit high transverse resistance values, a
sign of high transmissivity and favourable groundwater potential. Considering these findings,
VES- VES-19 and VES-20 can be considered as potential well locations.
