Abstract:
The present study is conducted to analyze the heavy metals intensity and
physicochemical parameters concentration in produced water of Salsabile Gas Plant and
also find out the economical treatment method of produced water which is coagulation
flocculation on the bases of simple operating procedure and cheap chemicals. Produced
water samples were collected from the study area by using standard protocol and
procedures. pH, TDS and temperature were analyzed on site with portable instruments
while rest of parameters including biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen
demand (COD), chlorides, aluminum, nitrate (NO3), oil and greases, sulphate, total
dissolved solids (TDS), arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, iron, lead, mercury, nickel
and zinc were analyzed in Pak EPA and Bahria University chemistry laboratory.
Separator produced water sample pH, TDS, BOD, arsenic, chromium, nickel, lead, iron,
copper and zinc concentrations were within Pak EPA permissible limit. Chloride,
sulphate, oil and grease, COD and cadmium concentrations were noted 15463, 1595,
115.8, 188 and 3.2mg/l respectively which were above the permissible limit of Pak EPA.
Similarly in drain pit produced water sample pH, TDS, BOD, arsenic, cadmium,
chromium, nickel, lead, iron, copper and zinc concentrations were within Pak EPA
permissible limit while chloride, sulphate, oil and grease and COD concentrations were
fond above the Pak EPA permissible limit. By applying coagulation flocculation
treatment on collected samples, with the increasing dose of ferric chloride with anionic
polymer, we observed decreasing trend of all parameters. Best results were showed on
90mg/l ferric chloride with anionic polymer and filtered sample. In this treated water, all
parameters concentrations were within Pak EPA permissible limit. It could be used for
agriculture as well as for different industrial purposes.
