Abstract:
The present study investigated the source rock potential of Nammal Formation
in Dakhni Southwest-01, and Jand-2 wells. The study wells are located in Jand area in
Attock district. Tectonically, the wells are located in Potwar sub-basin near Dakhni
anticline. The tectonic regime of the area is highly stressed and contains faults,
anticlines and various structures. To achieve the objectives of this research, the
methodology adopted is to carry out various analyses on the rock cuttings of Nammal
Formation. In Dakhni Southwest-01, the organic richness was determined using Leco
CS-300 and maturity data was achieved by using ROCK EVAL-6 instruments. The
TOC values range between 1.73-3.73% indicating good to very good quality. The
values of S1 range between 0.15-1.59 mg HC/g rock and values of S2 lie in the range
between 0.72-3.87 mg HC/g rock indicating poor to good and poor to fair quality
respectively. For Jand-2, the organic richness and maturity data was achieved by using
ROCK EVAL-6 instruments. The TOC values range between 0.19-1.52% indicating
poor to good quality. The values of S1 range between 0.75-7.52 mg HC/g rock and
values of S2 lie in the range between 0.39-2.38 mg HC/g rock indicating poor to fair
quality respectively. Van Krevlen diagram and S2 vs. TOC plots elucidate that the
Nammal Formation contains type III kerogen and has the potential to produce gas only.
