dc.description.abstract Visual deficiency of reading the text has a vast effect on the lives of the visually impaired people. Although, devices are present in the market for text recognition but the need of cost effective, user-friendly handwritten text recognizer for the blind people based on android is still not focussed or valued. So, to help blind people and for their ease of use an android application of handwritten text recognition is developed. The application is an effective tool for the blind people to get their daily job done. The purpose of developing the application is to make blind people able to read handwritten text in English language without the help of another person. There are two main modules ofthe project. The first is handwritten text recognition module and the second is text-to-speech conversion module. In the first module, image of handwritten English text will be captured by the camera ofsmart phone. This text is then recognized using an algorithm based on deep learning. In the second module, the recognized text will be converted into speech in English language using speech synthesis (a built-in function of android). en_US
