Abstract:
Purpose
The present study investigates the impact of on-the-job shocks, perceived organizational support
and affective commitment on organizational embeddedness.
Methodology and design
The data has been collected from the employees of different SME’s in Karachi, Pakistan. A
fivepoint Likert scale questionnaire has been used as the data collection technique. The regression
analysis conducted in this research as the conceptual framework includes multiple independent
variables and a single dependent variable. Moreover, the study included recent literature, i.e., from
the years 2018-2021.
Findings
The study found a strong positive relationship between on-the-job shocks and organizational
embeddedness. Also, the study found that there is a strong positive relationship between perceived
organizational support and organizational embeddedness. Moreover, the study identified that there
is a strong positive linkage between affective commitment and organizational embeddedness.
Limitations
Due to a lack of financial resources, the study was limited to collecting responses from
Karachibased SME’s, rendering generalizability hard. Furthermore, to evaluate correlations
between the constructs, this study focused on cross-sectional data. Similarly, only SME’s workers
were surveyed in this study.
Recommendations
Considering all the factors, the study has suggested that not all the shocks are negative i.e. it is not
necessary that the affect the employees in a negative manner but they can be used as a challenge
that can help in growth. Moreover, an organization should support their employees financially and
emotionally to make them stay committed to the organization
