dc.description.abstract This study is carried out to investigate the shale gas potential of Talhar shales on the basis of seismic interpretation, TOC (Total organic content) analysis and petrophysical analysis. Specific fault behavior and geometry is established on the basis of 2D seismic data interpretation. The role of faults is significant in this area because the structures are generally fault bounded with associated dip closures. As fault pattern (Horst and graben structures) is bit simple in this area due to normal faulting in the area. The fault and horizon interpretation process lead to the better understanding of the structural geometry and its extents etc. This investigation incorporates conservative seismic interpretation which involves the seismic to well tie followed by horizon tracking, fault identification and marking. Different reservoir properties like porosity, water saturation, hydrocarbon saturation, are computed from the merger of different wireline logs. Consequences to the above shown processes lead to a better and more consistent understanding of depositional and structural models. After the petrophysical evaluation process, rock physics is carried out to better recognize the nature of lithology and fluid present inside the Talhar shales and effect of fluids on the overall response of Formation. Talhar shales in both wells proved to have hydrocarbon present in them on the basis of rock physics analysis. Later on TOC (total organic content) analysis is done using Passey’s updated method, which also errands the presence of fair to excellent organic content in Talhar shales. en_US
