Abstract:
Gambat area is located in Central Indus Basin, Pakistan. Geologically the area
lies in an extensional regime. It is situated in Pannu-Aqil Graben which is located in
between Mari-Kandhkot High in the north and Jacobabad-Khairpur high in the south.
Dry hole analysis was performed to depict the reason of failure of the wells in the study
area. 3D seismic and well log data was used to carry out subsurface structural
interpretation, and reservoir evaluation respectively. Seismic interpretation inferred the
presence of normal faults in the study area. Total three reflectors were marked including
Top Upper Goru, Lower Goru, and B-Sand interval. Time and depth contour maps were
generated to delineate the structural closure and integrity of the trapping mechanism.
Similarly, petrophysical analysis was performed to confirm presence of Hydrocarbons
and their seal whereas source was confirmed through literature review. After detailed
review of the parameters of dry hole analysis, lack of structure and its closure was
confirmed as the reason for well failures.
