dc.description.abstract Projects implemented in the IT sector are considered as one of the most significant factors for providing assistance to fulfil ever-growing needs of technology in developing countries. Due to unsatisfactory performance of these projects, they are considered to have low success rates. Researchers are now considering Project management (PM) tools and methodologies as possible solution for the failure of IT projects. Different industries have different levels of adoption of Project Management tools and practices. There is a gap between Project Management theory and its practical implementation particularly in the IT sector. Study of best Project Management practices or tools within the planning and execution phases for projects in IT sector holds immense importance for better outcomes and overall project success. The aim of this research is to find the effect of PM tools on Project performance and to find out the most effective Project Management Techniques used in IT sector. A survey was conducted among project managers working in IT sector to study the extent of adoption of PM practices and tools. This study proves that there are different levels of adoption of PM tools among Project Managers. Different organizations use different set of tools during the Project lifecycle for successful project execution. These tools are linked to project performance in terms of both the internal and external project success. en_US
