Abstract:
We describe a method for contrast and exposure improvement in low light images
taken indoor as well as outdoor. The terms “exposure enhancement” and “contrast
enhancement” are usually used interchangeably for image enhancement in low light
acquisitions. While exposure can be inferred from low frequency or background of an
image, contrast by definition refers to the ratio of the foreground with the background.
A fast multiresolution low light enhancement scheme is proposed which is based on
Laplacian pyramid, and show how foreground and background at different levels
contribute to contrast and exposure enhancement. The proposed method outperforms
other method in terms of contrast and exposure enhancement for low light images.
