Abstract:
As energy demand is increasing, the conventional energy sources will not be able to
endure the burden of such demand, since they are decreasing rapidly due to high
consumption communities are looking towards an alternative in renewable energy.
Because of the decreasing prices of power electronics and photovoltaic panels, people are
shifting from conventional power generation to renewable clean generation. The purpose
of this research is to design a Solar PV fed Motor drive for BLDC Air Conditioner
Compressor without battery bank. Photovoltaic panels are connected with MPPT
(Maximum Power Point Tracker) charge controller which uses the help of algorithm to
extract the maximum power out of the photovoltaic panel, through DC to DC converter.
Unlike other DC motors Brushless DC motor requires commutation which is done
electronically with the help of a motor driver. Without battery bank MPPT charge
controller will directly feed its output to the motor driver. The motor driver consists of a
combination of several switches which are controlled using several different techniques.
Motor driver is designed such that the speed of the Brushless DC motor is directly
proportional to solar insulation. Model of the system is simulated and its performance is
evaluated in the MATLAB-Simulink library.
