Home Automation System using Telephone Line

Abstract

Housing Security has become a major issue over the last decade due to the recent increase in crime rate, especially when home owners are vacationing somewhere far away. So keeping in consideration about all these things, we have developed a system which performs almost all these things still being very cheap. A Home Automation System (HAS) is a system, which can control and manage your house. It also gives you automatic control of various appliances and security .devices in your house thus keeping you safe and at ease. We used telephone fG" automating the user's home. The main idea of the project is that we can automate home, switch off and on different kind appliances remotely with the help of telephone. One can also check the status of the appliances. We also have different sensors that will be fixed at different locations of house in case of fire etc. The system will make call to the owner. The owner himself can also check the status ofthe sensors. The status is checked on the other side in binary with the help of DTMF (decoder) which converts the tones in to binary. We considered the security function as well. The user when dial will be asked to enter password in order t"' continue. We used 89C51 microcontroller to perform different functions. When a user calls, he is asked for the security password. As soon as he enters the correct password, the voice guides him about the operations he can perform. This project not only automates the home and offices but also saves time, money and other resources. One can control his home appliances while sitting in any part of world. Many commercial system of automation like ours are implemented through out the world. It is actually the cheap solution for different problems. The use oftelepho~e is just to give ·vuse to most of the people around us who are not familiar · with GPRS and well-educated because there are systems available which use new technologies but very few people know about them.
