This report is the outcome of over 4 months of hard work. These four months saw me using every possible means to grasp as much knowledge as in my reach to get hold of my main objectives; exploring project related management and increasing knowledge of java. Project Desk involves e:h1:ensive use of the programming language java. Its development includes the integration of three main parts. One is the application part dealing with all project management related functionalities. The other two parts are to support the threaded discussions, and they might be referred to as the front end (client/interface) and the back end (server). These modules combine successfully to provide complete services of Project Desk. The Project Desk provides all that is required by an administrator to conduct his projects, organize his tasks, handle the reports and related data, and track the activities of his members. This is a tool that is there for people to conduct many activities without even moving from their seats. I intend to reduce gaps between the administrator and the members of a project, whether they are physical gaps or communication gaps. 'This is done by recording every activity at one place and providing the users with complete view of these recorded activities. The thing that we are really proud of is that nothing of this sort has been developed before. This was a unique concept and we gave it a physical existence by our hard work and keen interest. Another good feature of Project Desk is that it is modular software and is open for any further enhancements without laying any obstacles. We can extend the scope of this tool to any extent by adding to its origin much other functionality, to provide maximum flexibility to users and versatility to the software itself. This report starts with the simple introduction of this project and the aims and objectives that we hope to accomplish. It also includes the benefits that software provides to its users. All the previously mentioned detail is covered in the first chapter, Introduction. |
