Abstract:
Fishery Monitoring System (FMS) serves as a monitoring as well as an alarming system that alerts fishermen if they are about to breach designated fishing areas and keeps an eye on fishing vessels in Pakistani territorial waters and treaty zones. An on-board transceiver unit links to the GPS and uses internet to communicate with the base station. These transceiver units also serves the ship’s crew as an alarming system. On the base station, a ship’s location can be seen on a computer screen, as well as its Path and ID. FMS also aids law enforcement by allowing them to focus their efforts on the areas with the greatest likelihood of serious violations. For example, the Regional Fishing Quota Act, Endangered Species Act, and the Marine Mammal Protection Act all use it as evidence in prosecutions. In addition, it will keep the fishermen on-board the boat from venturing outside of Pakistani territorial waters, saving them from numerous dangers.
