The objective of this study is to determination the hydrocarbon potential in Mehar-01 well
using wireline logs. Mehar field is located in Sindh province,190 KMs west of Sukkur and
300 KMs North of Karachi. The Mehar was discovered by an exploration well, of Petronas,
in 2003. Log data used in this study includes the Gamma-ray log, Gamma ray Neutron tool,
Resistivity log, Caliper log, and SP log. The borehole profile of the zone of interest wasgood.
The calculation of the porosity was carried out with the help of the Gamma-ray Neutron Tool.
One prospect zone had been marked in Ranikot formation and five zones of interest has been
marked in Sui Main Limestone formation. The volume of clean prospect zone of Ranikot
formation is 64.14% percent on average. The Gamma-ray neutron instrument estimated the
average effective porosity is 5.83 percent. Water saturation is 53.46 percent on average, while
hydrocarbon saturation is 46.53 percent on average on the other hand the prospect zones of
Sui Main Limestone have a volume of clean of zone 1 is 87.17%, zone 2 has 87.83%, zone 3
has 90.93%, zone 4 has 93.59%, and zone 5 has 85.63% on average. The gamma-ray neutron
instrument estimated the average effective porosity of selected zones has 2.72%, zone 2 has
2.53%, zone 3 has 1.38%, zone 4 has 0.83% and zone 5 has 4.83% on average, which showed
that the zone of interest is a hydrocarbon-bearing zone as compared to water. Petrophysical
analysis showed that prospect zone has clean lithology and moderate effective porosity.
Beside clean lithology and good effective porosity there is relatively moderate percentage of
hydrocarbon saturation. Therefore, petrophysical analysis reveal that in Mehar-01, Sui Main
Limestone is acting as an effective reservoir. |
