| dc.description.abstract | Microbes are everywhere and a workplace can be the perfect breeding ground for them. The main goal of this study was to determine the microbiological contamination on workplace surfaces. This study was conducted within the premises of Bahria university H- 11/4 campus to determine the extent of microorganisms present on different surfaces. Surfaces like keyboards, telephones, rostrums, toilet taps, and desks were taken. Sterilized cotton swabs were used to take 20 samples from equal-sized areas on these surfaces each. Nutrient agar and MacConkey that were used as culture media were inoculated with the sample swabs and incubated at 37 degrees centigrade for 24-36 hours. The total number of bacterial colonies on all the Petri dishes were enumerated and expressed as colony-forming units per ml. in the results it was established that all the samples of the considered surfaces were contaminated with bacteria belonging to different species, many containing pathogens while some were also contaminated with fungus. The study confirmed that surfaces of workplaces of daily use were contaminated with microbes which can play a major role in disease transmission and the surfaces that are publicly used by multiple people at the workplace level shows higher microbial content. | en_US |
