Distributed Hospital Management System

Abstract

There are 8 branches of Punjab Employees Social Security Hospital working in various regions of Punjab. Various segments and processes of the System are being manually managed, which lead towards lots of errors at critical stages in day-to-day operations. Process for preparing daily, weekly, monthly reports is manual and person dependant, which causes generation of un-reliable and error-prone reports. Due to the inconsistent and incomplete reports, the decision making process becomes very slow, also causing confusion in minds of decision makers. There is a dire need of computerization of the system to improve overall processes of the hospital and provide an interface to the Management, which will help them in analyzing the various processes and lead them to a better and reliable decision making process. Distributed HMS with Centralized Support, is basically the computerization of various branches of ‘Punjab Employees Social Security Hospital’ working across the Punjab at 8 locations. Application software, PESSI, will be designed and developed to fulfill the needs of the System. PESSI is a distributed application, which will run in LAN Environment in all branches of the PESSI. Basically it is a Distributed Database Management System; Database at each Hospital will contain the data of their respective branch. A scheduled replication between Central Office and All Branches will be implemented which will merge the data in one Central Repository. With the implementation of PESSI at regions, information regarding key components (Patient, Accounts, Employees, Inventory, Lab, Ward etc) of the HMS will be maintained at regional Databases. At Center, various analytical/summary reports will be generated to help the management in Decision Making Process.
